THE TASKS!

Congratulations! You are about to learn how to develop an understanding for the 3 R's by....

  1. understanding the need for waste management.
  2. understanding the meaning of the terms REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE.
  3. differentiating between the terms REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE.
  4. documenting your own ideas for using the 3 R's with respect to a number of simple objects.
  5. Discuss with your parents if/how your family uses the 3 R's. Write down ways you can help your family do a little bit more.
Now that you know the objectives of the lesson please write a 2 paragraph reflection from the assigned reading of one of the text books listed in the blog post below.

Due in 3 Days.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Worksheet

Please list, on the form highlighted below, what you can do to produce less trash, how to use a trash item for a different purpose instead of throwing it away and how to recycle a trash item into something useful.
Due in Class.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle worksheet

REDUCE ==> make less garbage. For example, instead of buying juice boxes for lunch, buy a large container of juice and use a washable single serving container to take it to school.
REUSE ==> use an item more than once. For example, when you get a plastic bag from the grocery store put it in your car and use it again the next time you go shopping.
RECYCLE ==> turn an item into another useful item. For example, scrap paper from the classroom might be turned into newspaper or paper bags when sent to the recycling plant.

FINAL ASSESSMENT!!

During the next class you will need to reflect on your answers to the previous tasks, questions, discussions and projects assigned throughout the month on blog spot. Please reflect on the following options listed below. Students will be required to do option 1 and at least 1 of the other 2 options provided.

1. Please create a plan for people to eliminate waste. How can it be done? What can we do with it? How can we avoid it (think of the 3 R's) and how can we make sure people listen? Students will include their “famous student quote” in their plan. This assessment is not optional but required and all plans will be constructed into a “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Book” once all plans are completed I will bind them into a book, you will be expected to design the cover with recycled materials, thrown away items or reusable materials. SO START COLLECTING THEM NOW!! This option is REQUIRED.

2. Please construct a specific plan for you and your family to cut down on waste and recycle more. This will need to be signed when it is completed, I will ask you later about your progress. Be prepared to document you and your families lifestyle changes throughout the rest of the semester.
